This cosy Cornish coastal town on the border where Cornwall meets Devon, really does have it all, and at Rockspray, you’re right at the very heart of it. If surfing is more your thing, you’ll soon see why Crooklets Beach has earned its nickname the ‘Bondi beach of Britain’. 

Nestled in front of the wide, green expanse of Bude & North Cornwall Golf Course, it’s like having nature’s unspoilt garden on your doorstep, with the spectacular ocean view beyond. Within such a glorious natural landscape, it’s easy to see why Bude is loved by walkers, adventurers and birdwatchers. It’s a twitcher’s paradise, especially at Maer Lake nature reserve where the likes of Redshank, Golden Plover and Wigeon are regularly spotted, and rare Berwick’s and Whooper Swans migrate to for winter. 

There are plenty of footpaths and bridleways to trek the coastline, saunter along the harbour and canal with its original sea lock designed by revered engineer James Green, or ramble up to the castle, breathtaking scenery and epic views with every step.

Popping to the shops is a joy too, with quaint streets filled with an eclectic array of independents, cafes, restaurants, delis and a traditional department store just made for mooching. Need to do a big shop? No problem. Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, COOP and Lidl are all in the town. If artisan-baked sourdough and locally-produced is more your thing, it doesn’t get better or fresher than at the Bude Farmers & Craft Market down by the canal. Bude even has its own hospital, as well as the more everyday essentials of a post-office, schools and doctors’ surgery, all within easy reach. 

Nightlife here is quiet and relaxed, enjoying a warm, friendly atmosphere with a chilled, holiday vibe. Dine out with friends, catch the latest film at the independent cinema or watch the most stunning of sunsets at Widemouth Bay, just 3 miles along the coast. You’ll soon get the idea that it’s all about relaxing and going with the flow in this little haven of happiness. Is there a better place to find the perfect work/life balance? We don’t think so.
